You can't flip through a magazine or change the channel these days without noticing the dozens of advertisements highlighting the newest prescription drug for depression or a blockbuster pill that treats both good and bad cholesterol.
This form of advertising, used widely by both big-name and small pharmaceutical companies, is called direct-to-consumer advertising, or DTCA, and it's ruffling some feathers among doctors.

The emerald ash borer has killed 25 million ash trees in Michigan since it was discovered there in 2002 and arborists in the Chicago area are bracing for similar losses as the invasive insect spreads.
Besides Michigan, the destructive pest has turned up in Canada, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois in the past four years.

When 33-year-old Joanna Rudnick found out she had genetic mutation that gave her an extremely high risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, the risk was not all she was scared about.
“My biggest fear when I found out I was positive was, ‘How am I ever going to tell this to a partner?’” Rudnick said.
So she documented her experience navigating through a new relationship while faced with the decision of whether or when to surgically remove her breasts and ovaries.
